308 | How much did Elinor Brinton cost in US Dollars?
In "Captive of Gor" (#7), Chapter 1, Page 1:
"By the standards of Earth, I was regarded as extremely beautiful. Yet on this world I am a fifteen-goldpiece girl..." If a Gorean goldpiece is equivalent to $1000, than it seems that Elinor was a very expensive Acquisition, indeed!
Somehow, I think my calculations are a bit off; I cannot see a Gorean paying so much for an Earth girl, an untrained and unskilled barbarian girl of Earth.
It is true that she is very beautiful, perhaps more than most: "... more lovely than many..." Ch1/Pg1, so she was NOT Inexpensive, she was Desirable. Also, she was not 'Handled with Care' when transported to Gor, she was treated the same as the other girls, so no special treatment. Apparently, she was not considered VIP status... So, can you help me, please? How much did Elinor Brinton cost in US Dollars? It seems that she was NOT a cheap Acqisition, was she "affordable" by the common
Answer
As you pointed out,
By the standards of Earth I was regarded as extremely beautiful. Yet on this world I am a fifteen-gold-piece girl, more lovely than many, yet far excelled by many whose stunning beauty I can only envy.
Captive of Gor    Book 7    Page 1
Gold Tarn disks are described as being worth quite a lot:
A gold tarn disk of Ar is more than many common laborers earn in a year.
Tribesmen of Gor    Book 10    Page 158
And then there is the Gold Tarn of Double Weight:
Yet he had in the pockets of his belt twenty gold tarn disks, and of double weight.
Assassin of Gor    Book 5    Page 4
Elizabeth, Virginia and Phyllis sold for 1,000 gold apiece:
"It is bid," said the man, "by Samos, First Slaver of Port Kar, for the wenches now on the block three thousand pieces of gold."

As of the moment of writing this, the current price of gold in the US is $1,921 an ounce.
When you read this it will undoubtedly be different.
So back to your question of how much did Elinor cost in US dollars . . .
It's easy to Google the price of gold.
What we need to know is how much does a Gold Tarn weigh?
I assume you went to this page Money here at ~The Gorean Cave~?
But, alas, you won't find the weight of gold coins there, either in Gorean stone (which we could convert) or, directly, in Earth ounces.
So, the bottom line is, tell me what a Gorean gold piece weighs and I can answer your question, because the books don't tell us.
