480 | Tal, Master,
Is Ale served in a horn, as well as a tankard? I cannot find anything other than mention of a tankard.
Thanks so much.
Well wishes, Laila
Answer
There is nothing that says ale MUST ALWAYS be served in a tankard.
It only stands to reason that if you’re out of clean tankards, those taken from the high shelf of the servery and tested for cracked rims by turning them under your nipples,
it would be perfectly ok to use whatever else you might find.
Perhaps that that might be a horn, or a glass, or bota or a bottle. Perhaps your cupped hands or a free woman’s slipper, or a bowl made of snow.
Maybe a tarn’s beak or a saucer and a cup. Or a brightly colored stein just for show.
Seriously though, sure, serve the ale in whatever you like.
