Hello,
The first thing to realize is that, on Gor, the "serve" itself was not some huge formal event. Especially since this would focus attention on the slave serving the beverage. The slave is not what is important, the free person getting their thirst quenched, is. It would only seem reasonable, and good hospitality, to assume one would offer a guest something to drink before consuming a beverage first.
