 Q #  Question
317
Is it correct to call the 5 day period a week or a hand when referring to the Gorean calendar... ie:A year consists of twelve months and thirteen hands. Each month equals five weeks, each week consisting of five days. This means a Gorean year has 365 days. or is this correct? "Eleventh Month ~First Hand (Jan. 15-19) ~Second Hand (Jan. 20-24) ~Third Hand (Jan. 25-29) ~Fourth Hand (Jan. 30-Feb. 3) ~Fifth Hand (Feb. 4-8) Eleventh Passage Hand (Feb. 9-13) I thank you in advance for your time Master...

Answer

To answer your question, no, it is not correct to call the 5 day period a Hand.
Just because we are speaking of five days, and there are five fingers on a hand, does not make the two synonymous.
If we used that logic, a foot has five toes, why does no one call a Gorean week a Foot?
There are five pennies in a nickel, why does no one call a Gorean week a Nickle?

Each set of five, five day weeks, is separated by another five day period which is called a Passage Hand.
But this five day period is never referred to as a Hand. It is always referred to as a Passage Hand.
No comparison of a Passage Hand to a human hand should be made.
