469 | Can a slave with pierce ears be freed? i am of an understanding ANY slave can be freed by anyone, but i am told any slave with pierced ears cannot
Answer
I can see where some might arrive at the conclusion of a girl with pierced ears forever being “doomed” to slavery.
This is especially true when they have only a limed knowledge of the books on which to base broad and all-encompassing statements. One must be careful since, almost inevitably they wind up looking silly.
On the other hand, there is some pretty compelling evidence to back up this particularly rash judgment.
Any woman, it is said, with pierced ears, is a slave girl.

On Gor only slave girls have pierced ears. On Gor these girls, with pierced ears, could be only slaves.

And it seems we have a clearly established universal rule.
However, there are, in reality, very, very few clearly established universal rules.
In this case, there is this quote which proves you are undeniably correct in that a girl with pierced ears may indeed be freed.
A girl with pierced ears is, of course, either a slave or a former slave. If she is a former slave, her papers of manumission had best be in perfect order.
