 Q #  Question

Tal, Master, Everything I have read states Kal-da is served in a bowl, pot, cup, mug. I was shown this quote stating Kal-da should only ever be served in a silver goblet. Using the word Kalda was a giveaway for me, but I have not read every book in the series, and even though I feel the quote is probably false, I wanted some type of proof to back me up when I present it. The quote is: "But make no mistake: Kalda is a Warrior's drink, not suited to the tongue of a Merchant or Scribe. It recalls the victory of Tharna of Warriors over their captors, the masked Mistresses, and should therefore always be served only in a silver goblet (to harken back to the melting of the silver masks into collars.) Be prepared to serve Kalda in great quantities to a Warrior in such a reminiscent mood!" (Outlaws of Gor) Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Answer

The "quote" you provide does not exist in the Books, either in whole or in part.

But your question intrigued me because the "quote" sounded so authentic. So I did some searching and found it, on two identical websites.

Source 1

Source 2

Here is what is posted on these websites.
"Kal-da : A beverage, served hot from copper kettles, of inexpensive red Ka-la-na wine to which slices and juices of fruits, such as tospit and larma, and mulling spices such as nutmeg and cinnamon, are added. It is served in the fashion of the Sangria of Urth, with pieces of the fruits and spices floating on top of the liquid. Kalda may be less expensive than other alcoholic options. The spices and combination of fruits vary.
But make no mistake: Kalda is a Warrior's drink, not suited to the tongue of a Merchant or Scribe. It recalls the victory of Tharna of Warriors over their captors, the masked Mistresses, and should therefore always be served only in a silver goblet (to harken back to the melting of the silver masks into collars.) Be prepared to serve Kalda in great quantities to a Warrior in such a reminiscent mood! Outlaw of Gor pg 76"

Notice, it tells us this can be found on page 76 of Outlaw of Gor.

So, what does Outlaw of Gor actually say on page 76?
Kal-da is a hot drink, almost scalding, made of diluted Ka-la-na wine, mixed with citrus juices and stinging spices. I did not care much for this mouth-burning concoction, but it was popular with some of the lower castes, particularly those who performed strenuous manual labor. I expected its popularity was due more to its capacity to warm a man and stick to his ribs, and to its cheapness (a poor grade of Ka-la-na wine being used in its brewing) than to any gustatory excellence. But I reasoned on this night of all nights, this cold, depressing wet night, a cup of Kal-da might go well indeed. Moreover, where there was Kal-da there should be bread and meat.
Outlaw of Gor     Book 2     Page 76

This is yet another example of blatant misinformation, presented in a way so that the uninformed believe it must be true! "Look it has a Book and page number!"

The Book says:
"Kal-da is a hot drink, almost scalding, made of diluted Ka-la-na wine, mixed with citrus juices and stinging spices."

But, it seems, what the Book says is not enough. So we need to add more detail:
"Kal-da : A beverage, served hot from copper kettles, of inexpensive red Ka-la-na wine to which slices and juices of fruits, such as tospit and larma, and mulling spices such as nutmeg and cinnamon, are added."

See, we need to add copper kettles, inexpensive, red, tospit and larma & nutmeg and cinnamon.

And the rest of what is on these websites, including the part which is in your original question, is not in the Books at all! All of that is completely made up and make-believe!
