 Q #  Question
311
In the books the Summer solstice is referenced as when Turia changes over it's calendar. With Turia being south of the equator, wouldn't the summer solstice of the north be winter solstice in Turia? Which technically it would be the winter solstice when they called their New Year>

Answer

This is the quote you reference in your question:

Most Gorean cities use the Spring Equinox as the date of the New Year. Turia, however, uses the Summer Solstice.
Marauders of Gor     Book 9     Page 58

Spring Equinox - New year in most Gorean cities
Summer Solstice - New year in Turia
Fall Equinox
Winter Solstice

I suppose your question is relative to where the writer is when making this statement.
However, I would think it more likely that a statement of "Turia uses the Summer Solstice" is meant to be interpreted from the viewpoint of what someone in Turia knows is their Summer Solstice.
Otherwise the same logic would apply to one living in Turia assuming their Fall Equinox is now the new year in 'most Gorean cities'.
